MAKE A PLAN.
  • Know how to turn off water, gas and electricity.
  • Get information about shelters in your area to identify where you will go.
  • Keep a map in your vehicle, leave early to allow time for heavy traffic.
  • Family pets will need a 3-day supply of food & water. Owners make sure pets are wearing an up to date collar with name and phone number of someone in the area in case pet is lost. Visit http://www.petswelcome.com for a list of pet friendly hotels.
  • Also, have a phone number of an out of town friend who can act as a communication link if family members become separated.
Family Hurricane preparedness kit should contain:
  • First aid kit and important medications
  • At least one gallon of water per person per day
  • Canned food & a manual can opener
  • Clothing, bedding
  • Battery powered radio, flashlight and extra batteries
  • Special items for infants, elderly or disabled members
  • Driver's license, social security cards, insurance policies
  • Cash
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Cell phone and extra battery
  • Household inventory
