Having trouble sleeping?
Almost everyone experiences a sleepless night here and there. When it happens too often is becomes known as insomnia. Insomnia is a common problem and affects as many as one in 10 Americans. Women are twice as likely to suffer from insomnia than men.
Insomnia can affect your mood and energy level and also your overall health because sleep helps to boost your immune system. Lack of sleep can cause problems during the day like sleepiness, fatigue, feelings of depression or irritability.
If you feel that you may be suffering from insomnia discuss this with your physician. Some things that can be done to improve your sleep are:
  • avoid caffeine, nicotine & alcohol late in the day.
  • try to eat dinner 2-3 hrs before bedtime.
  • get regular exercise but do it at least 5-6 hrs before bedtime.
  • try to read, listen to music or take a relaxing bath before bedtime to help you wind down.

You can always check with your Doctor for more information on insomnia.
